WICS launches Strategic Review of Charges consultation

The Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) publishes its consultation on the methodology for the Strategic Review of Charges for 2027-33, outlining the approach WICS will take to set water charges for the period 2027-33.

Since economic regulation was introduced, Scottish Water has continued to improve its performance and delivered real benefits for customers. Water charges in Scotland remain among the lowest in the UK, while Scottish Water has invested the most per person since 2002.  However, Scottish Water now faces new and longer-term challenges, including responding to the impacts of climate change, transitioning to net-zero emissions and replacing its ageing assets in a sustainable way.

Our draft methodology sets the course for Scottish Water to make further progress on its journey towards delivering the water sector vision and ensuring the industry is sustainable for generations of customers to come.

David Satti, WICS Interim Chief Executive added:

“Our methodology for SRC27 is an important first step in the Strategic Review process and represents the next phase in ensuring Scottish Water is equipped to face future challenges, so that customers continue to receive high-quality services at a reasonable price".

We welcome responses to our proposals from across the water sector, including Scottish Water, licensed providers, household and non-household customers, consumer bodies, other regulators, environmental organisations, companies involved in the supply chain and any other organisation or individual interested in the water sector.

The consultation closes at 12pm on the 9th October 2024.
